About
About The Patina Register
The Patina Register is an independent English-language journal for collectors of vintage mechanical wristwatches. We publish long-form editorial covering auctions, authentication, care and restoration, collector profiles, buying handbooks and thematic dossiers, with a particular focus on European and Japanese production between 1948 and 1985.
Our Position
We are readers first. Our editors have spent between six and thirty years studying, buying, servicing and, occasionally, selling vintage watches. We do not represent any manufacturer, retailer or auction house, and we accept no promotional consideration for editorial coverage. Where a piece we discuss belongs to a member of our editorial team, we say so.
Editorial Standards
Every article on this site is written from primary sources: manufacturer archive extracts, published caliber references, first-hand inspection notes and, where relevant, in-person interviews conducted with permission. We check dates, reference numbers and technical descriptions against at least two independent sources before publication.
We do not publish authentication or valuation opinions on specific individual pieces owned by our readers. Editorial commentary on categories and references is offered for general education and does not replace professional inspection.
Who Reads Us
Our readership is genuinely international, from first-time buyers taking a careful look at a mid-century dress watch through to long-standing collectors managing archives of a hundred pieces or more. We try to write for both without patronising either.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell watches. We do not authenticate on behalf of buyers or sellers. We do not offer investment advice or projected returns on any reference. Where our articles touch on prices or market movement, they describe rather than predict.
Corrections
We correct factual errors promptly and openly. If you believe an article on this site contains a factual mistake, please write to our editorial address on the Contact page with the specific correction and a source we can verify.
